Professor Alan D Widgerow

Professor Widgerow completed his undergraduate and post-graduate studies (Plastic Surgery) at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg South Africa. He was the top surgical graduate of the University of Witwatersrand in 1989. He has held various positions in numerous academic and professional associations including that of President of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery of Southern Africa (APRSSA). He was appointed Honorary Professor by the Senate of the Wits University in 1999. He is author of over 175 plastic surgical related publications and 2 books. He was editor-in-chief of Wound Healing Southern Africa until 2015. He was also founder and CEO of Advanced Wound Care Services with branches throughout South Africa. His current fields of interest are medical device innovations in cosmetic surgery, tissue engineering and wound healing. In July 2012, Professor Widgerow joined the University of California Irvine where he is currently Adjunct Professor and Division Chief of Research of the Center for Tissue Engineering, Plastic Surgery Dept, University of California, Irvine. He also currently holds the position of Chief Scientific Officer for Alastin SkinCare, an innovative start up cosmeceutical company located in Carlsbad, California, acquired by Galderma in 2021. Dr Widgerow continues to innovate new products under the Galderma umbrella.
Adar Science Inc, established in 2010, was dedicated to device, cosmeceutical and pharmaceutical innovations. The company is wholly dedicated to introducing new medical products and innovations to the health-care market. Adar Science Inc also provides consulting services to various start-up and existing companies in the cosmeceutical, pharma (scar, wound healing) and wound care fields, but is currently primarily involved in innovative projects related to the Galderma portfolio of products
